Editorial, medical review and corrections policy
MDTherapy publishes information about how mental-health care is paid for in Ontario. Getting that wrong has real consequences: someone may pay for care they could have had at no cost, or give up on care they were entitled to. This page explains how we work, how clinical review is handled, and how to tell us we are wrong.
Which sources we treat as authoritative
We use a strict source hierarchy. A claim is only published if a source at tier 1 or tier 2 supports it.
- Tier 1 — the governing document. Ontario legislation and regulations, and the Ministry of Health Schedule of Benefits for Physician Services. When a question is about what is insured, this is the only source that settles it.
- Tier 2 — the responsible public body. Ontario Health, ontario.ca, Health811, a regulatory college such as the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, or the hospital or agency that actually delivers the service.
- Tier 3 — context only. Peer-reviewed research and professional associations. We use these for background and never to establish a coverage rule.
- Not used. Other clinics' marketing pages, directories that do not disclose their sources, and any content whose provenance we cannot check.
We attribute each source to what it actually states. Where two sources say different amounts about the same thing, we say which said what rather than blending them.
How we handle uncertainty
"Unknown" is a publishable answer here. If we cannot confirm whether a service is covered, whether it takes self-referrals, or whether it is accepting new clients, the page says that it is unconfirmed and names what we checked. We do not fill gaps with plausible guesses, and we do not publish availability or wait-time figures we cannot source.
We are also careful about the difference between what a rule says and what it promises. Where the Schedule of Benefits is silent on a limit, we say the Schedule does not specify one. We do not translate that into a guarantee of access, a number of sessions, or an entitlement, because it is neither.
Medical review
No page on this site currently displays a medical reviewer, because no page has yet been reviewed by a clinician. We would rather say that plainly than imply a level of oversight that does not exist.
What review will mean when it happens
A page is marked as medically reviewed only when a professional qualified to assess its content, and licensed in Ontario where the content is Ontario-specific, has read the page in full and confirmed that it is accurate. Review means reading the page, not lending a name to it. When a page is reviewed we will publish the reviewer's full name, their profession, credentials and regulating college, the date of the review, and the version of the page reviewed.
Which content needs a clinician
Coverage and navigation content, meaning what OHIP pays for, which fee codes exist and how to reach a programme, is verified against the Schedule of Benefits and government sources. That is a question of administrative fact, not clinical judgement. Clinical content, meaning anything describing symptoms, treatments or what someone should do about their own health, requires review by a qualified clinician before publication.
Today the site deliberately contains almost no clinical content. Where clinical context is unavoidable, we describe what a public source says and link to it rather than offering our own clinical characterisation.
Reviewer independence
A reviewer will not be paid on any basis tied to what a page concludes, and any relationship between a reviewer and an organisation named on a page they reviewed will be disclosed on that page.
Nothing here is medical advice, no page creates a treatment relationship, and reading this site is not a substitute for speaking to a physician or another regulated health professional. If you are in crisis or thinking about suicide, call or text 9-8-8. In an emergency, call 9-1-1 or go to your nearest emergency department.
Corrections
If something on this site is wrong, we want to know. Coverage and eligibility errors can cost someone money or care, so we treat them as urgent rather than as feedback. Email info@mdtherapy.ca with the page address and what you believe is incorrect. A source we can check is the most useful thing you can send.
- We check it against a primary source. Not against what other sites say.
- If a coverage claim is in doubt, we take it down first. The claim is removed or marked as unconfirmed while we verify, rather than left up.
- We fix the page and move the review date. The date shown on a page moves only when a person has actually rechecked its sources.
- Substantive corrections are noted on the page. If a correction changes what the page told people to do, we say what changed and when, rather than editing silently.
If you are a physician, psychologist, registered psychotherapist, social worker or other regulated professional and you believe something here is wrong, please tell us. We will correct or remove a claim while we recheck it.
Correction log
No corrections have been published yet. This site launched in September 2026. When corrections are made, they will be listed here with the date and the page affected.
How often we recheck
- Fee and coverage pages are rechecked whenever the Schedule of Benefits is amended, and at least every six months regardless.
- Programme information is rechecked at least every six months.
- Any page a reader reports an error on is rechecked immediately.
We show the date sources were last rechecked, not an automatically refreshed "updated" stamp. A date on this site means a person looked.
Independence and money
MDTherapy is not a healthcare provider. We do not accept patients, deliver care, bill Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP), or take referral fees. No organisation can pay to be named on this site, to appear more prominently, or to change how its funding is described. If that ever changes, this page will say so before it happens. See our about page for how the site is positioned and how we handle data.
Primary sources
